Author Guidelines

When submitting an article to the editor, it is recommended to follow the following rules, drawn up taking into account the “Unified Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals” (Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals), developed by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (International Committee of Medical Journal Editors).

When making decisions and resolving possible conflicts, the journal's editors adhere to recognized international rules governing ethical relationships between all participants in the publishing process - authors, editors, reviewers, publisher and founder.

The statements listed in this section are based on the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement of Elsevier, and the Association of Scientific Editors and Publishers Declaration on Ethical Principles for Scientific Publishing.

The journal publishes only the results of studies conducted in compliance with biomedical ethics and meeting GCP standards (Good Clinical Practice).

When initially sending a manuscript to the editor, all authors of this article must be indicated in the copy of the email. Feedback to the editors will be provided by the responsible author identified in the article.

Submission to the editor of previously published (in whole or in part) articles and articles already being considered for publication in another journal is not permitted.

All articles, including those prepared by graduate students and candidates for the scientific degree of candidate or doctor of science based on the results of their own research, are accepted for publication on a first-come, first-served basis.

Articles that do not meet the editorial requirements will not be accepted for consideration.

All submitted articles are reviewed (double-blind review, see the “Reviewing” section of the site: https://polenovjournal.elpub.ru/jour/about/editorialPolicies#custom-0).

The editors reserve the right to edit articles submitted for publication.

I. Informed Consent Statement

In its work, the journal “Russian Neurosurgical Journal named after. prof. A. L. Polenova" is based on the provisions of the Declaration of Helsinki of the World Medical Association, as amended. 2013 (WMA Declaration of Helsinki - Ethical Principles for Medical Research Involving Human Subjects) and strives to ensure compliance with ethical standards and rules of data collection for research that involves human subjects. Before undertaking research, the researcher should be familiar with the informed consent provisions of the Declaration of Helsinki and conduct the research in strict accordance with the principles set out below.

"1. Participation as research subjects of persons capable of giving informed consent must be voluntary. Although consultation with relatives or social group leaders may be appropriate in some cases, no person capable of giving informed consent should be included in the study unless they have given their own free consent. In medical research involving persons capable of giving informed consent as research subjects, each potential subject should receive sufficient information about the purposes, methods, sources of funding, any potential conflicts of interest, institutional affiliations, expected benefits and potential risks, inconveniences that may arise as a result of participation in the study, conditions that apply after the end of the study, as well as any other significant aspects of the study. A potential research subject should be informed of their right to refuse to participate in the study or to withdraw their consent to participate at any time without any adverse consequences. Particular attention should be paid to the specific information needs of each potential subject, as well as the methods used to provide the information.

  1. Once satisfied that the potential subject has understood the information provided, the physician or other appropriately qualified person should obtain the subject's voluntary informed consent to participate in the study, preferably in writing. If consent cannot be expressed in writing, oral consent must be properly documented and witnessed. All subjects of medical research should be given the opportunity to receive information about the overall findings and results of the study.
  2. When obtaining informed consent to participate in a study, the physician should exercise special caution in cases where the potential subject is in a dependent position in relation to the physician, or may consent under duress. In such cases, informed consent must be obtained by a suitably qualified person who is completely independent of the relationship.
  3. If a potential research subject is a person who is unable to give informed consent, the physician must obtain the informed consent of his legal representative. Such individuals should not be included in research that is not likely to benefit them, unless the research is being conducted to improve the provision of health care to a population of which the potential subject is a member; cannot be substituted for research on persons capable of giving informed consent and involves only minimal risks and inconveniences.
  4. If a potential subject determined to be incapable of giving informed consent is nevertheless able to express his/her own views regarding participation in the study, the physician should seek his/her opinion in addition to the consent of his/her legal representative. The potential subject's disagreement must be taken into account.
  5. Research involving subjects who are physically or mentally incapable of consenting, such as unconscious patients, may be conducted only if the physical or mental condition precluding informed consent is an inherent characteristic of the study population. In such cases, the physician should seek informed consent from a legal representative. If such a representative is not available and if patient enrollment cannot be delayed, the study may be conducted without obtaining informed consent, provided that specific reasons for enrolling subjects with a condition precluding the provision of informed consent are specified in the study protocol and the study is approved by the research committee. ethics. Consent from the subject or his legal representative to continue participating in the study must be obtained at the earliest opportunity.
  6. The physician must provide the patient with complete information about which aspects of treatment are relevant to the study being conducted. A patient's refusal to participate in a study or decision to withdraw from a study should not affect the patient's relationship with the physician.
  7. In medical research using biological materials or data that allow identification of the person from whom they were obtained, for example, when researching materials or data contained in biobanks or similar repositories, the doctor must obtain informed consent for receipt, storage and/or reuse use of such materials and data. There may be exceptions where obtaining consent for such research is impossible or impractical. In such cases, the study can only be carried out after review and approval by the ethics committee.”

II. Human Rights Statement

When presenting the results of experimental studies involving human participants, it is necessary to indicate whether the procedures performed complied with the ethical standards set out in the Declaration of Helsinki. If the study was conducted without taking into account the principles of the Declaration, it is necessary to justify the chosen approach to conducting the study and ensure that the ethical committee of the organization in which the study was conducted approved the chosen approach.
